The Mercia Match
For many years the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire have competed annually for the Mercia Match, which is shot shoulder to shoulder in early June, the venue rotating round the counties. The original format was for county teams of 20, with the best 15 to count, over 20 shots at each of 25, 50 and 100 yards. Included in the Mercia Match were competitions for County Ladies teams of 8 and County Juniors teams of 4, which could be shot concurrently with the main match. As the years have passed, the format has been changed with the agreement of all the counties to suit the availability of shooters and rifle ranges.
