Match Rifle

Members of the Hopton Supper Club under the captaincy of Mr RWS Whitby again entered the FW Jones Match which they won for the third year in succession by a large margin from their competitors.

The victorious England team taking part in the Elcho Match against Scotland, Wales and Ireland included Nottinghamshire shooters. Mr RWS Whitby was the Adjutant and Mr D Lowe one of the two coaches. Mr SJ Whitby was also in the team. Click here for the Jones and Elcho results

Target Rifle

This year the only entry for the Nottinghamshire County Heat of the Astor Championship was from Langar RC, so they had a bye into the final shot at the beginning of the TR part of the Imperial Meeting. They came nineteenth.

The East Midlands heat of the King George V Trophy was shot during the Inter-Counties Meeting at Bisley and Nottinghamshire won through to the final for the first time for some years and went on to make second place with a score of 1187.140v to Surrey's 1197.178v. The top scorer for Nottinghamshire was Miss LE Kennedy with 150.21v. There were also 3 on 149, 2 148's and 2 147's. Click here for the detailed KGV scores.

Miss LE Kennedy was in the English Twenty Club A team taking part in the Opening Shot at 900 and 1000 yards. The team came third and Miss Kennedy was top scorer with 148.19v. She was joined by Miss AJ Clarke in the England Under 25 team which won the Home Countries Invitation Match. Both ladies were chosen to shoot in the England team for the National Match alongside Mr RSF Shouler and 17 others. The team Captain was Mr RP Rosling and Mr JPS Bloomfield was Adjutant. England were the winning team and Mr Shouler had the highest individual score of 105.17v ex 105.21v, earning him the David Hossack Memorial Trophy. Click here for the detailed team scores.

Nottinghamshire entered teams in the County Short Senior and the County Long Matches and whilst their placings were well down the list, there were individual good scores. In the Short Mr DAJ Talbot was top score on 99.12v and in the Long Mr RSF Shouler on 98.14v. Click here for the detailed team scores.

Individual competitions

Match Rifle

Mr SJ Whitby was the leading scorer from Nottinghamshire, gaining silver medals for second placings in the Armourers and the 1200 Yard Aggregate. He also earned a bronze medal for 11th in the Hopton Aggregate. Mr HMS Mott also collected honours in the Whitehead MR, Saturday Aggregate, Wimbledon MR (coming 5th), Armourers, Sunday Aggregate and 100 Yards Aggregate. Target Rifle

There were many personal successes for Nottinghamshire shooters at the Imperial Meeting. Mr MR Rewston came 3rd in the Donegall after a five-way tie shoot for those on 50.10v. Mr RW Ramage collected the O class tankard in the Alexandra with 50.8v and also he was selected to shoot for Wales in the National Match.

Miss LE Kennedy came 3rd in the Times with 50.9v. Miss AJ Clarke in the same competition also scored 50.9v coming 6th and she made another possible (50.7v) in the Conan Doyle. Dr JC Jobling was 3rd in the P.W.Richardson and Mr DAJ Talbot came 4th in the Hutton Tyro Trophy and 3rd in the Chairman's Prize (T Class).

Mr RSF Shouler shot very consistently through the Meeting to come 3rd in the Grand Aggregate on 697.98v over 13 separate shoots. He also came 2nd in the Lord Tedder Aggregate and 3rd in the Aidan Reece Aggregate

In the St. George's Vase, eleven Nottinghamshire shooters made the second stage and three of them the final: Mr RSF Shouler 42nd, Mr TJ Bullock 71st, and Mr D Lowe 86th.

Dr ITR Jobling lead the way on 105.12v for six Nottinghamshire shooters into the second stage of the Queen's Prize. The two who made it to the final were Mr RSF Shouler (63rd) and Mr TJ Bullock (90th).

Since the end of the Imperial, we have learnt that four Nottinghamshire shooters have been selected to take part in the NRA Channel Islands Tour 2018. Mr DAJ Talbot and Mr TJ Bullock are in the main team, and Mr MR Rewston and Mr PA Hatfield are reserves.
