The Notts RA BP Open Championship Meeting 2013

The 2013 Open Championship was held over the three days from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd June at Thorpe Cloud Range in Derbyshire. The range is situated at Thorpe Pastures on the edge of Thorpe village in the beautiful surroundings of Dovedale in Derbyshire.

Shooting started on the Friday after 11am with a 200yd patched ball shoot: 10 shots standing off a rest and 10 shots standing off hand. The Saturday programme was a three range free rifle shoot consisting of 3 sighters and 10 to count at 400, 300 and 200yd. The day was rounded off with a meal and presentations at the Coach and Horses at Fenny Bentley.

Sunday's shoot for the Volunteer Cup was to be a Minié competition over 200, 300 and 400yd, using Enfield .577 rifles shooting at a reproduction of the original target used at the first Nottinghamshire Rifle Association Meeting in 1861. The course of fire was: 200yd 1 warmer, 1 sighter and 5 to count. At 300 & 400yd 1 sighter and 5 to count. However it had to be postponed because of bad weather. It was eventually shot on August 17th at Beckingham range.
