The 34th Annual Prize Meeting

It would appear from the absence of a report of the 33rd annual prize meeting (despite a thorough search for it), that it may not have happened. There was no sign of it in the Volunteer Orders during 1893 and there was the problem of the lack of a home range, which had not been resolved before the end of the year (see our report on the Nottingham Town Council debate in Dec 1893).

However, the following year the 34th annual prize meeting did feature in the Nottinghamshire Guardian of June 30th and in the Nottingham Evening Post of June 25th. The former report is transcribed here and the latter was word for word the same.

The meeting was held at Grantham so the proposed range at Trent was not ready for the occasion. The format of the match was now the standard shoot at 200, 500 and 600 yards with seven to count at each range. There is no mention of sighting shots. The prize money on offer was rather less than for the previous matches.
