Smallbore shooting in 1932 - Mapperley Park Smallbore RC

Mapperley Park Smallbore Rifle Club achieved a notable success by winning the Pearce Cup (winter league) and Jardine Cup (summer league), the Portland Cup (club knock-out team championship), the Guardian Cup (rapid fire team disk shoot) and the Don Jardine Cup (junior competition).

The Nottinghamshire Smallbore Rifle Association was probably formed around 1908 when the National Smallbore Rifle Association was inaugurated. It later merged with the Nottinghamshire Rifle Association.

MAPPERLEY PARK RIFLE CLUB
CLEAR THE BOARD.

History was made in Nottingham on Saturday, when the Mapperley Park Small Bore Rifle Club added further to their laurels by winning the Guardian trophy.

They have now cleared the board of trophies competed for by clubs of this nature a feat never accomplished since the Notts. Small Bore Rifle Association was formed away back in pre-war days.

The trophies won by the Mapperley Club are as follow: Pearce Cup for the winter league; Jardine Cup summer league; Portland Cup team knock-out; Guardian Cup rapid fire team knock-out; and the Don Jardine Cup for boys under 18.

Only four teams competed for the Guardian Cup, which was contested on the range of the 45th Nottingham Scouts at Carrington, the home quarters of the Mapperley Park Club. In the first round Players "B" team beat their "A" team in 55sec.; and Mapperley Park beat Carlton in 32sec. In the final Mapperley Park beat Players "B" in 43sec.

The teams comprised four men, and it is interesting to note that Mapperley Park is the youngest club in the Association. Nottingham City and Southwell club were unable to send teams.
