NOTT'S. TEAM FOR BISLEY.

COUNTY RIFLE ASSOCIATION'S
EXCELLENT WORK.

This week another shooting season has opened, and there is already abundant evidence of a further big increase in interest. It was the Notts. Rifle Association who started the season on Tuesday, and tonight they hold their third annual meeting in the lecture room at the Drill Hall, Nottingham, when Lieut.-Colonel L. C. Brewill, T.D., commanding the 7th Battalion (Robin Hoods) Sherwood Foresters, will preside. Both Mr. C. Parker, who, as secretary of the county association since the revival of that body, has accomplished so much for rifle shooting, and Mr. J. F. Young, the treasurer, will present very satisfactory reports, and it is again the intention of the association to send a Notts. team to Bisley.

The use of Trent Range has again been allotted to the N.R.A. for every Tuesday during summer time, shooting commencing at 5.45 p.m. The range has also been allotted to the City Rifle Club on Thursdays, and the Nottingham and Notts. United Services Club R.C. on Fridays. The last-mentioned inaugurate what is expected will prove another highly successful campaign tomorrow, and they will run all their competitions during the month of June.

The National Rifle Association Bronze Medal was shot for in June and won by Nottingham University O.T.C.'s Sergeant D.E. Woods, who had earlier won the main prize at the Warwickshire meeting at Kingsbury.

The Nottingham and Notts. United Services Club held its Colonel R. Leslie Birkin Cup competition at Trent range and full details of scores were reported.

COLONEL LESLIE BIRKIN CUP.

Interest in rifle shooting is, thanks to the energetic policy of the revived Notts. Rifle Association, increasing considerably, and the competitions are securing excellent support. One of the most exciting finishes seen for a very long time at Trent Range was that for the Association's National R.A. Bronze Medal. It was eventually won by Sergt. D. E. Woods, of the Nottingham University O.T.C., who had already distinguished himself by carrying off the chief prize at the Warwickshire meeting at Kingsbury, but only after two tie shoots. Sergt. Woods, H. E. Warsop and Capt. B. D. Shaw in the first place tied with scores of 64 out of a possible 70. Then Woods and Shaw again tied with two inners and a bull each, but on the next shot Woods got a Bull and his rival an inner.

Last evening at Trent the Nottingham and Notts. United Services Club competition for the Colonel R. Leslie Birkin Cup was decided, the winner being J. B. Fenwick, who obtained 95 out of a possible 100 — 10 shots at 200 yards and 10 at 500 yards. The shoot was carried through under service conditions with open sights and two slings.
