The Report of The Seventh Annual Prize Meeting

The seventh annual prize meeting of the Nottinghamshire Rifle Association was opened on Tuesday, at the Nottingham Butts. The weather continued fair, although rather dull, throughout the day, and there was some excellent shooting. Captain and Adjutant White, RHR, and Captain Warwick, of the 8th Notts, were present.

The competitions were as for the previous year and were shot over the Tuesday and Wednesday following.

There are 95 competitors listed in the summary of scores made.

The top eleven competitors in the first three competitions at 200, 500 and 600 yards were awarded prizes totalling £25 and went into the aggregate competition. No prize winners list is given for the aggregate; but the full list of scores shows Sgt. J. Toplis, of 8th RHR, as the highest scorer with 15, 18 and 12, total 45.

The second day's shooting took place on Wednesday, at the Butts. The "blue ribbon" of the contest fell to Corpl. Draycott, who carried off the association medal and £5. He made five "bull's eyes" in succession at 500 yards. Mr Draycott's shooting previous to this has been of a high character. In the Yeomanry class no competition took place. For the Association prize there was also a good competition, and the shooting generally was carried on in a spirited manner.

The Bronze Medal of the National Rifle Association and £5 was won by Corpl. E. Draycott of 2nd RHR with 13, 20 and 10, total 43, beating Private A. Wilson of 5th Notts who had 16, 14 and 12 for 42. Corporal Draycott's 600 yard score of 10 included a ricochet.

After the Association prize, a further competition was shot at 500 and 600 yards, 5 shots at each, which was won by Private T N Coles of 1st RHR with a score of 34.

Lastly the Nottinghamshire Rifle Association prize took place at 200 and 500 yards for members who had paid their subscriptions for the year. The winner was Sergt J Toplis of 8th RHR with 16 and 17, total 33, just beating Lieut. K Evans of 1st RHR with 19 and 14, total also 33.
